Someone three blocks from your door just typed “best tacos near me” into their phone. In the next ten seconds they’ll pick a place. The only question is whether that place is you.

Search is how most new customers find a restaurant now. Not a billboard, not a flyer, a phone at a red light. Restaurant SEO is simply the work of making sure that when a hungry person searches, your name shows up, looks good, and gives them a one-tap way to order. None of it requires a marketing degree. Most of it you can do this week.

Start with the thing Google shows first: your profile

Before anyone sees your website, they see your Google Business Profile: the little card with your name, star rating, photos, hours and an order button. It’s free, and it’s the single highest-leverage thing most restaurants ignore.

  • Claim the profile and fill in every field: address, phone, real hours, and the cuisine so Google knows when to show you.
  • Add real photos of the food and the room. Listings with photos get far more clicks than listings without.
  • Answer reviews, the good and the bad. A calm reply to a one-star review does more for trust than ten five-star ones.

When someone searches “food near me”, Google leans on three things: how close you are, how relevant you look, and how well-known you seem. You can’t move your building, but you can shape the other two. Use the words your customers use (“birria”, “arepas”, “family-owned”) in your profile and on your site. Keep your name, address and phone number identical everywhere they appear online. Small mismatches confuse the algorithm and cost you rank.

“Being findable is step one. Being orderable the second someone finds you is where the money is.”

Then win the click, and keep the order

Here’s the trap. You do the SEO work, you climb the results, and the customer clicks… a delivery app that charges you up to 30% to hand you back your own regular. You paid, in time and effort, to feed someone else’s marketplace.

The fix is to give that click somewhere of yours to land. Your own online ordering page, with your name on it, sends the order straight to you at 0% app commission, and keeps the customer’s contact so you can bring them back. Same search. Same customer. Very different math at the end of the month.
