Shift4 + Eatsy: The Complete Integration Guide
If you’re a Shift4 customer evaluating Eatsy (or vice versa), this article covers exactly what the integration does, what it doesn’t do, and how to set it up correctly.
The five-second summary
Shift4 is your POS. Eatsy is your online ordering platform. The integration brings your menu (categories, items, modifiers, prices, and availability) straight from Shift4 into Eatsy, automatically. It syncs one way: you edit in Shift4, Eatsy updates. It powers your Online Ordering and Branded App.
It doesn’t handle orders, it doesn’t handle payments, and it isn’t the iPad digital menu integration.
That’s the headline. The details matter.
What the integration actually does
Four concrete things:
1. Menu import
You connect your Shift4 account once. Eatsy imports your full menu structure (categories, items, modifiers, modifier groups, and prices) so you’re not rebuilding it by hand.
2. Ongoing sync
After the initial import, any change you make in Shift4 (a new price, an added item, an edited modifier) shows up in Eatsy automatically. Shift4 is always the source: Eatsy never pushes changes back.
3. Availability (86-list)
Mark an item as 86’d (out of stock) in Shift4, and Eatsy hides it from your ordering site and branded app. The customer sees “currently unavailable” and gets prompted to pick something else.
4. Multi-location
If you run multiple Shift4 locations, each one keeps its own menu synced to its matching Eatsy location.
What the integration doesn’t do
Honesty matters. Here’s what’s not covered, so you don’t assume it:
- It doesn’t route orders to Shift4 or your KDS. Online Ordering and Branded App orders are handled directly in Eatsy. Your kitchen doesn’t see a Shift4 ticket for an online order.
- It doesn’t touch payments or refunds. Eatsy charges and refunds don’t run through Shift4 or show up in its reports.
- It doesn’t sync customers or loyalty. Eatsy’s customer database and loyalty program are independent of Shift4’s.
- It isn’t the iPad digital menu integration. That’s a different part of the product. This one covers Online Ordering and Branded App.
- It isn’t bidirectional. You can’t edit the menu in Eatsy and have it reflect in Shift4. Shift4 leads.
If any of these are deal-breakers, raise them in your demo.
Setup: how to do it right the first time
Step 1: Connect your Shift4 account
In your Eatsy admin (admin.eatsyorders.com), go to Account → Settings → Integrations → Shift4 and click “Connect Shift4.” Sign in with your Shift4 credentials and approve read access to your menu.
Once connected, Eatsy verifies the connection and lists your Shift4 locations.
Step 2: Map your Shift4 locations to Eatsy locations
If you have multiple locations, you map each Shift4 location to an Eatsy location. For new customers, this happens during onboarding with your launch manager.
Step 3: Run the menu import
Open Menu management → Import from Shift4 and click “Import.” Eatsy pulls your full menu structure, with original Shift4 names. Flamsy AI runs in the background to generate bilingual descriptions.
Step 4: Review and clean up
Review every item Flamsy AI flagged with “low confidence,” usually because the original Shift4 entry was abbreviated or ambiguous. Confirm or edit the EN and ES descriptions, allergen tags, and modifier groups.
Step 5: Test and go live
Confirm your menu looks right in Online Ordering and your Branded App: items, prices, and modifiers correct. Once it checks out, we turn on automatic sync.
If something doesn’t look right, check the integration health page (Account → Settings → Integrations → Shift4 → Health), or the menu sync troubleshooting article.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does the integration cost extra?
No. It’s included in both the Online Ordering plan ($89.99/mo per location) and the Branded App plan (custom quote).
Do I need a specific Shift4 plan?
It works with Shift4 SkyTab and most Shift4 enterprise configurations. If you’re on a legacy Shift4 product, talk to support.
Can I disconnect the integration later?
Yes, from Account → Settings → Integrations → Shift4 → Disconnect. Your menu stays in Eatsy; we don’t delete data on disconnect.
What happens if Shift4 has an outage?
Your Eatsy menu keeps showing the last synced data. Once Shift4 is back, syncing catches up on its own. Your Online Ordering and Branded App orders don’t depend on Shift4 being up at that moment, since they’re handled directly in Eatsy.
